2007 SAILING LOG

We are aboard Nellie Juan again, sailing in the Sea of Cortez.

It is winter here – 70 degree days – 60’s at night and a jacket feels good.  The “Norther’s” (north winds) blow regularly.  We tasted the tail end of one crossing the 72 miles from San Carlos to Santa Rosalia (our average boat speed was 7 knots).  We were triple reefed, and we were “smoking”.  It’s so nice to have a crew of experienced sailors aboard.  Our friends Martha Boston, Peter Branning and Travis Taylor were with us for the first leg of the sail.

We drove to San Carlos from San Diego, meeting up with Mary & Jim Anderson who were land cruising with their motor home.  The RV park they found in San Carlos was full of Alaskans.  Amazing!

It took us about 9 days to prepare ourselves and Nellie Juan for the season.  Her bottom has been cleaned, and after crossing the Sea we have installed a new bilge pump.  It looks like we are ship shape now, and we will soon work our way south with Loreto our destination by March 4.
